Lucerne, Switzerland

We didn’t plan to visit Switzerland but if you don’t plan something Lucern is a great place to end up. We were going stay in Beautiful lake Como, but found when we arrived that most of the smog from Italy had decided to visit as well and it was pretty dreadful. Hopefully none of the many stars that own homes there, weren’t there either, for their own health. So we drove North into Switzerland and beautiful Lucern and along the way we travelled through our longest tunnel yet, the St Gottard tunnel that is 17 km’s in length under one of the many Swiss mountains, followed by not too long after, a 9 km long tunnel. Amazing engineering. And to think in Perth they had so many problems building a 1.6km tunnel.

We finally get to Lucern and find some great accommodation; unfortunately it’s not the cheapest place to visit. Lucern is placed next to your typical glass smooth lake and green hills that abound here. It’s also made more attraction with what remains of its 13th century city walls that include a wooden defensive walkway that runs between the two banks of the river on which it sits.
